PC System Types
There are many different types of computers. I prefer to divide them into two categories: the design or width of the processor bus (often referred to as the front-side bus [FSB]) and the width of the internal registers, which determines the sort of software that may be executed.
When a processor reads data, the data passes through the processor's external data link and into the CPU. This connection has traditionally been a parallel bus; but, in recent circuits, it is a serialized point-to-point link that transfers fewer bits at a faster pace. In older systems, the bus was typically shared by numerous components, but current point-to-point communications are just between the processor and the chipset.
