Now that Intel, the world's leading chipmaker, has released its latest platform, BIOS has advanced significantly, and many users have jumped on the Z97 motherboard series. The ASUS Z97-A ups the ante when it comes to getting a good product for a reasonable price, with many of the features we all look for from ASUS, such as a great software package and a wide-open BIOS ready for tweaking. It also offers some fantastic memory support and that curious little SATA Express implementation that many other boards have chosen not to support. I was fortunate enough to receive an early SATA Express drive sample to utilize in my testing, so there's something to look forward to with the ASUS Z97-A, which has a lot of capacity for future upgrades thanks to its SATA Express connector.

Intel CPU & chipset features
This motherboard supports Intel® CoreTM i7/i5/i3/Pentium®/Celeron® CPUs in the LGA1150 package, with integrated iGPU, memory, and PCI Express controllers for onboard graphics output, 2-channel (4 DIMM) DDR3 memory, and 16 PCI Express 3.0/2.0 lanes. As a result, the graphics performance is great.

Intel® Smart Response Technology of SSD speed with HDD capacity
An installed fast SSD (minimum 18.6GB accessible capacity required) is employed as a cache for frequently accessed data.
