Asus H61M-A/USB3 Overview

Hello everyone! Welcome today to an overview of the Asus H61M-A/USB3 LGA 1155 motherboard. The motherboard is PCI Express 3.0 ready with an Intel 3rd generation Core processor. It is also backward compatible with PCI Express 2.0. The motherboard is HD ready with both HDMI and DVI outputs on the rear I/O. The motherboard is Windows 8 ready, uses an Intel 861 chipset, and supports Intel Core i3 i5 and i7 series Sandy Bridge and Ivy Bridge processors. On the LGA 1155 socket, Asus includes some features on this motherboard. Such as solid capacitors, anti-surge protection, USB 3.0 support, network control, and a UEFI BIOS, which allows you to use your keyboard and mouse within the BIOS. The Asus H61M-A motherboard has digital power for both the CPU and the GPU, which allows precise power delivery to these components. Some other features on this board include electrostatic discharge protection, using Asus's EPU to save power, fan expert support, easy flash to support for a safe, and the easy way to update the BIOS and the Gigabit Ethernet. Open in the Box; we can find a user's guide and, a QuickStart guide, a driver CD. I recommend getting the latest off the Asus website. A suitcase badge for the rear input and I/O shield, and two SATA cables.


The UEFI BIOS provides a much friendlier user interface and is easier to navigate with the ability to use your keyboard and mouse on the BIOS screen. The board supports fan expert, which allows you to adjust both the CPU and chassis fan speed depending on the ambient temperature allowing you to create a quiet and cool environment for your system. We also see anti-surge protection on the motherboard, which detects in real-time over-voltage and will actively cut the overvoltage supply to protect the motherboard. This component, the AI sweet tooth, is also supported by the motherboard and allows users to do a whole range of things from a simple software suite. 

These components also monitor temperatures, energy management, and the voltages on the motherboards. EPU is a real-time power-saving chip that helps to reduce power consumption by monitoring the PC's loading and moderating power consumption. ESD stands for electrostatic discharge; ESD can be damaging to components. Asus has included built-in protection to prevent any damage DIGI+ VRM is a digital power delivery system for the CPU and the AI GPU board. It provides precise voltage regulation, which offers greater energy efficiency and stability for your system. This motherboard comes in a micro ATX form factor.

Motherboard Inspection

Underneath the motherboard and the heatsink, we find the Intel h61 chipset. The motherboard has four SATA-3 gigabits per second ports. There are no SATA-6 gigabits on this motherboard. We see the front panel or F panel header for connecting the power button, HDD, LED, etc. There are 24-pin ATX power connectors beside the DIMM slot, and on the top left is the four-pin CPU power connector, which is ideal. Two four-pin PWM fan headers are perfect for a dual fan heatsink.

Next, we see the single PCI Express x16 slot. This PCI is electrically wired to run our x16 and is compatible with PCI Express 3.0 and 2.0. It also features two PCI Express X1 slots. Moving on, we find two DDR3 memory slots supporting a wide range of speeds. The board features an Intel LGA 1155 socket and will not fit processors that aren't compatible with this. The motherboard is compatible with Sandy Bridge and the Ivy Bridge processors on this platform surrounding the CPU socket. At the bottom of the board, we find three USB 2.0 headers, the green power LED, and a front panel audio connector on the rear input and output panel.

We find one HDMI output and two USB 3.0 ports. Two USB 2.0 ports. One gigabit ethernet port. One VGA output, one DVI output, 2 PS2 ports, the purple one for keyboards, the green one for mouse, and three for 3.5 mill audio jack outputs.
