Asus Maximus VI Hero Motherboard Overview

Hello everybody, and welcome back to Schematic-x.com. Today, I will bring you another overview; if you have been checking out the website recently, I have been talking about a lot of Intel Z87 motherboards, and this one will be the same. But it will be extraordinary because, first and foremost, it's an Asus ROG motherboard overview. But I will also be covering an entirely new SKU with the Asus Maximus VI Hero. The motherboard is a very special SKU for us. It's designated for you. I wanted to buy an Asus ROG motherboard and get many features, functions, designs, and overall performance-oriented aspects that Asus ROG brings at a much lower cost. So as always, I am going to be talking about features, functionality, design pretty much everything that makes the Asus Maximus VI Hero, and I will also cover some of the accessories and some of the contents that come included with the motherboard. Then I wrap it up for you and give you a little bit of perspective on where the Asus Maximus VI Hero fits in terms of the Asus ROG lineup NZ87 as a whole and where you might want to consider the Asus Maximus VI Hero if you're going to be building a brand new Z87 based system.

Asus Maximus VI Hero Accessories

So with that, first, let's go ahead and look at the accessories included with our Asus Maximus VI Hero motherboard. All right, open the box. There are some different accessories. I am going to go through these quickly. We've got six SATA 6G cables. These are all SATA 6G as the motherboard has 6 out of 6g ports natively from the PCH Plus, with two additional ports. We've got our Q connectors. These are the front leads that allow you to go ahead and more easily connect things like your power and reset power-led things along those lines. You have another one for USB for those interested in multi-GPU configuration, specifically SLI. We have an SLI ribbon cable, keep in mind that crossfire cables come included with your GPUs. Suppose you're purchasing an AMD-enabled graphics card from there. We have our I/O shield always on the Asus ROG series. This padded I/O shield helps to go ahead and block EMI from coming in through the backplane, plus it makes it a nice softer backplane to work with when installing it into our chassis. We've also got this cool little door hanger. We've got an updated cool ROG case bag. So Youn go ow that on the front of your chassis or wherever you'd like to go ahead and be able to represent ROG. We've got an excellent set of stickers that you can go ahead and affix to the serial ATA cables. Now that allows you to go ahead and easily map which drive is correspondingly connected with which cable to which port. We've got an entirely new feature in the UEFI that makes this unnecessary.

We've got a complete manual that gives you all the features, functions, specifications of the board, and aspects of installation; make sure to read this if you have any information. We have our support DVD, which contains much special software outside the standard drivers. They are big value adds and give you guys much more flexibility for your system and functionality. Also, you'll want to install this to take advantage of AI suite 3. This gives you all the tuning software in windows plus; our turbo-v core turbo-v core is a new lightweight application specifically focused on you who want to tweak and tune the board. But without other aspects of the ai suite application running, AI suite 3 is fantastic. When we get to the board, you will have a complete version of ROG ram disk software. We've covered our accessories here, the brand new Maximus 6 hero.

Motherboard Deep Analysis

So you can see right off the bat that it maintains the red and black and white color aesthetic that ROG has historically been known for; it looks great. It feels high performance, you know, and the overall connectivity is still outstanding. It is a fantastic board to distill down some of the higher-end features. You would normally find it on the side, like the extreme or the hero and but still keeping a fundamental design philosophy that allows you to have better than what you're going to usually find on even high performance in our high-quality mainstream series taking it up a notch in terms of it being a ROG board. But being able to maintain a great price-to-performance ratio with still an extremely high level of functionality and a strong level of features.

So we'll cover many design topologies and connectivity available to you on the board. Once we go ahead and cover those points, we'll also jump into aspects of the VRM and some unique updates that we've gone ahead and integrated for this generation. Some simple, special software that ties into our hardware implementations for this generation. So first off, let's go ahead and take a look at the connectivity and connections that we have laid out throughout the motherboard.

So starting from the top, we have an eight-pin CPU power connection, and moving from there to the right-hand side, we course, have a couple of our Nichikon GT 10k capacitors, and from there, we have two 4-pin CPU fan headers. One for a CPU fan and one for an optional secondary fan. You need one for your CPU pump and another for the fan on the radiator for a closed-loop water cooling solution. Now, these headers, all the headers that will be on the motherboard, are fully controllable inside of the UEFI and fully controllable inside of our AI suite 3 software, and they both support 3-pin and 4-pin control operations. Once again, ROG is giving you an outstanding level of control and flexibility in adjusting how you cool and tune your system, which is also critical to get the best acoustics.

We'll go over to the onboard control area for the motherboard if you're generally working it outside of a chassis or first working when setting it up. So we've got a debug decode led that's great if you guys want to reference the manual or the internet for information. This also serves as the go button, that's a great and easy way to be able to go ahead and bypass memory initialization issues. If you're mixing and matching DIMMS, making upgrades, or even overclocking, you can press that button instead of clearing out the entire CMOS. So the system will just reset frequency-related parameters and get you back up and running by keeping things like your raid, fan controls, and all that stuff in place. You can store an overclock profile at the touch of a button within the UEFI. We have onboard start and reset buttons, and moving down from there, we'll touch on this when we get into the CPU section. But you can see some of the new high-performance ultra high amperage chokes we have on here, specifically our black wing chokes.

We have another four-pin fan header moving down from there. We've got our 24-pin power and have a front USB 3 connection, which fully supports USB 3 boost to enhance storage performance. We have eight serial ATA connections, six natively provided by the PCH, all being status 6g and the 7th and 8th ports. We are also, status 6g provided by an as media 1061 controller. So a huge amount of storage connectivity is available on the hero. We've got the classic front headers (F-Panel) for power reset, power-led hard drive-led things like that. Right next to that, another four-pin fan header is like all the rest, all fully controllable; above that; we have a header that ties into the direct key button. So this is a great and easy way to have a one-touch button to reboot you straight into the UEFI don't have to worry about hitting that F1 or delete key, even if it's installed inside the chassis instead of running the lead to the front chassis header. You can run your reset cable straight to this header right here, and your reset button will turn into an external direct key button. So lovely touch there. Moving past that, we've got an integrated USB 2 header.

We've got the OC panel connection. This particular header will allow you to go ahead and utilize an external control device to have advanced control for your system: temperature monitoring overclocking, and many other cool things. We've got TPM interested in advanced security, and then we have our HD audio connection for the front chassis. Remember that audio design will be highlighted throughout this entire section. So this is a fully isolated audio design. The audio portion of the board is independent of the primaries of the motherboard. So this is something we've pioneered and now had for multiple generations on our ROG gaming series. We've gone ahead and incorporated LN audio capacitors. So these capacitors are different than your standard high-performance 10K capacitors. Because the electrolytic content within them is designed explicitly for actual audio reproduction, so overall, you'll get improved clarity, sound stage, and warmth. You're going to get the best audio you're going to get from any integrated motherboard solution. There is also an entirely new particular function for this generation called sound radar. Good radar is going to be on screen. Let's say a radar system that will be able to detect in-game audio and map it and tell you exactly where that audio is coming from, and that's going to be exclusive for maximum effects series boards such as this Asus Maximus VI Hero.

So, we have a very cool function and feature here on this motherboard. We are moving up from here regarding the rest of the connectivity. We, of course, have another four-pin fan header, which rounds out the total connectivity. Then we have our standard slot expansion pretty straightforward. So next up, we'll go ahead and take a look at a bear board and dive a little bit more into the extreme engine Digi power design or schematic implementation that we have on our Asus Maximus VI Hero. We've taken part in Asus Maximus VI Hero and showed you an exposed section of the VRM. VRM means Voltage Regulation Module. Now the new fourth-generation core series processor Haswell has an actual PWM and a digital controller built inside, but that doesn't mean that the board's still not going to have to have high-quality power components that should be able to supply power to the CPU.

It's a stock or overclocks configuration. Even though it is an entry-level motherboard, this ROG motherboard has an outstanding power componentry phased on it better than any other ROG rog series boards based on price range. It utilizes the same overall componentry and design that Asus features on The Maximus 6 extreme, which has set world record performance at over 7 gigahertz and over 37700 memory. We have a robust eight-stage inductor design. An eight-phase design these features our new 60 AMP black wing chokes. So these are incredibly high amperage inductors. They're more power output and are capable of these inductors than even the inductors that we use on X79, which require more power because there are more cores. So overall, that helps improve your stability and overall thermal efficiency for your VRM.

Now, in addition to that, we have our MOSFETs and our drivers from the net specification. The power block design or schematic works in conjunction with these high-performance inductors to give us an outstanding level of power delivery. Asus continues utilizing these ultra-high performance and premium grade capacitors, Nichikon GT Japanese. That is rated at 10k operation versus the industry norm of five. The industry Norm of 2k and even better than our standard series motherboards. Which are 5k-rated capacitors in addition to their approved lifespan. They also have the benefit of supporting significantly lower and higher temperatures. So overall, the entry-level on the ROG side is this new Maximus 6. We will be integrating the overall performance quality and the componentry on this motherboard. So you can still feel confident that regardless of whether you're running out of stock, whether you're gaming or whether. You are. You're overclocking, the hero, and will have all the power you need to back it up.

With that, let's go ahead and jump over to the IO and the backplane connectivity. First, we have a combo PS2 port, which is great for old-school gamers or tweakers who still want to have the ps2 connection that supports both keyboard and mouse. We have two USB 2 ports directly underneath, and our USB bios flashback button that works with our USB bios flashback technology will allow you to take a flash drive load in the UEFI update and plug it in. No CPU, memory, graphics, or card; go ahead and depress the button and directly update the UEFI. Even if the board fails to post due to the unified becoming corrupted, it's a great way to go ahead and recover it and get back up and running from there. You've got two more USB 2 ports and HDMI output, which works in conjunction with the iGPU on the motherboard. We have a Toslink optical output that works with the supreme effects audio implementation and takes advantage of our DTS-2 ultra 2PC. DTS Connect software package allows you to complete hardware-based real-time encoding of 2-channel audio up to 7.1-channel audio.

We've got four USB3 ports that work together with the onboard USB3 front header. So that gives you six, and all of those features of our USB3 boost performance optimization technology for storage devices. You also get the benefit of having a USB charger, which allows you to charge mobile devices like that quickly. You've got an Intel i-series gigabit ethernet control latest generation. It's the I-200 series and has reduced power utilization, higher throughput, and more management options through the intel pro set. You also get a great addition to our game's first two-packet priority software. This is specifically optimized to reduce your gaming-based latencies reduce your ping, and overall give you better network connectivity and improve performance not only for gaming but even for network-centric services like streaming, downloading, and general web browsing, and that's all easily adjustable in a real-time application. What's inside of windows can even be matched to a supplemental network adapter.

We have all our analog audio connectivity which links up to the maximum effects isolated integrated audio implementation, which rounds out what we have here in terms of the out connectivity. So with that, let's go ahead and wrap things up. That wraps up a quick overview of our brand-new Asus Maximus 6 Hero. So as you can see, this is a new skew that Asus is offering but still needs to improve in terms of overall the key hallmarks that allow this to be uniquely a ROG or mid skew. You still have outstanding hardware specifications, excellent performance, overclock ability, and tweak ability, everything you would expect to get in a ROG series motherboard. But while being distilled down for you guys looking for more value in terms of aggressive price. It keeps all those powerful features, such as our maximum effects isolated audio design. Intel series network controller with game first packet priority technology is fully advanced with fan expert 2 technology to fully customize and tune every fan header with 4-pin and 3-pin support. It also offers you a fully usable and easy-to-work-with ram disk utility. It allows you to go ahead and take advantage of the high-performance memory overclocking capability. We have on this motherboard the ability to create your ram disk volume to go ahead and optimize any applications or specialized files that you want to go ahead and run directly through memory. So overall, when you fact that the Asus Maximus 6 Hero fits the price range for somebody who wants to set up a great dedicated gaming motherboard. You know, at either one or two GPUs but still keeping a huge amount of flexibility at what they have to offer in terms of key features that are towards gamers and overclockers.
